Sequence diagrams for common flows. A booking platform integrating payments needs to see the full picture: authorization, capture, settlement, refund, dispute. When these steps happen out of order or with unclear timing, developers build workarounds that break later.
Error handling that explains the business logic. "Error 422: Invalid request" tells an engineer nothing. "Error 422: Capture amount exceeds authorized amount. For partial captures, use the partial_capture endpoint" tells them exactly what to fix.
Sandbox environments that mirror production behavior. If your test environment returns success for every transaction, developers won't discover that their integration breaks on declined cards until merchants are live and losing bookings.
When a booking platform's developer hits unclear documentation, three things happen:

What does your sandbox environment support? Specifically: Can we test declined transactions? Can we simulate chargebacks? Can we see webhook delivery in real-time? A sandbox that only handles happy-path transactions isn't a useful testing tool.
How do you handle documentation for edge cases? Every payment flow has weird scenarios—split payments, partial refunds on partially captured authorizations, disputes on transactions with multiple payment methods. Ask how these are documented and supported.
What's your process when we find documentation gaps? The best partners treat documentation feedback as product feedback. They fix gaps quickly and communicate updates to all integrating platforms. The worst partners treat documentation complaints as support tickets that get closed without action.

The booking platforms that move fastest on integrations choose partners where their engineers can work independently. Every support ticket is friction. Every unclear endpoint is a delay. Every assumption forced by missing documentation is a bug waiting to happen.
